Short Course 2:
Materials and Process Selection

Sunday, 4 September 2005

Registration: 9:00 h

Course Leader:

M. F. Ashby, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom

Course Description:

Over the last 10 years Professor Mike Ashby of Cambridge University and colleagues at Granta Design have developed rational methods for material and process selection, and embodied these in a software package called CES.

This course is an opportunity to find out more about the method and the software directly from its inventor, Professor Ashby.

The course will cover the background of the selection method, case studies in materials and process selection, and application of the methods in educational and professional settings. The ideas learned will be implemented in hands on sessions with the software.

The course is suitable for anyone who teaches materials or selects materials. Course attendees will receive a pack comprising the new 3rd edition of Ashby's Materials Selection in Mechanical Design, course notes, a "getting started" guide, and a copy of the CES EduPack software, valid until the end of September. We ask that all those who register for the course to bring a laptop computer with them.
