There has always been good contact between the DGM-connected research institutes and the universities of North Rhine Westphalia that place an emphasis on materials research. It is difficult to monitor this in detail, but some examples can be mentioned. In this way, the colloquia of the Max Planck Institute for iron research have long formed focal points for the meeting and exchange of materials researchers from the Rhine Ruhr area. There have been joint events between the Institute of Metallurgy of RWTH Aachen and the chair of materials science at the Ruhr University Bochum in the field of martensite research. In the collaborative research centre 316, the University of Dortmund and the Ruhr University Bochum worked together on the production and processing as well as testing of metallic and metal-ceramic composite materials. Many other similar examples could be mentioned.
In a brochure that was published in May 2016, the activities of the Rhine-Ruhr Regional Forum are reported. In this brochure, all Rhine-Ruhr Regional Forum locations introduce themselves briefly. In addition, the independent Rhine-Ruhr Young DGM also reports on its activities. Both the Rhine-Ruhr Regional Forum and the Rhine-Ruhr Young DGM are open to all interested parties. New members are heartily welcome any time!
