The DGM-DGG joint technical
committee ""Glasses and Optical Materials"" as the primary objective to
bridge different fields of glass research, and to cross the border between
industry and academia. Specifically, it shall bring together the fields of
metallic glasses and non-metallic glasses, their properties and structure.
In a first focus, mechanical properties and ways towards their
knowledge-based design shall be treated. Thereby, specific attention is
given also to computational simulation on micro- and mesoscales. The
committee therefore acts as a forum for joint and coordinated research
efforts, e.g. within the priority program 1594 ""Topological Engineering
of Ultrastrong Glasses"" of the German Science Foundation.
Covering industrial and scientific topics in the area of glassy
materials for applications in optics, energy and compoundation
Working on a science-based knowledge of materials properties and
structure-property relations on topological to macroscopic length
Initiating of joint research and development projects: universities,
research institutes and industry
Interdisciplinary exchange of experiences between neighboring fields
of glass research, especially with respect to metallic glasses and
traditional inorganic (oxide-) glasses
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde e.V. (DGM) is the largest technical science association for materials science and materials engineering in Europe. For more than 90 years, it has consolidated the expertise of the specialist fields of science and industry: representing the interests of its members from the fields of science and industry - and as guarantor for the systematic development of the fields of materials science and materials engineering.
