Scientists and users from different fields are working together interdisciplinary in the technical committee to develop new fields for applications, to emerge and to characterize new magnesium based materials, to optimize processing routes and to introduce new and innovative products into the markets. The increasing use of magnesium based materials will contribute in weight savings in a substantial way. This issue concerns applications in industries (transportation and aerospace) as well as consumer products and will contribute to achieve the climate goals in the following years. It is necessary to evaluate weaknesses and strengths of magnesium based materials and to transform weaknesses into strengths. This already could be shown for magnesium implant materials where the corrosion of magnesium alloys is of essential meaning.
