The Historical Committee of the DGM has set itself the task of making the historical significance of materials visible to both materials scientists and historians. With its regular activities, the DGM wants to contribute to the continuity and bundling of the individual initiatives in the history of materials in recent years. In doing so, it focuses on a wide variety of aspects:
- Cultural significance of materials in history
- Material knowledge and technologies
- Technical-scientific associations/associations
- Materials disciplines in engineering and natural sciences
- Trade and Industry
- consumption history
- Environmental history of materials / recycling
- Materials in Armament and War
The Expert Committee on History is also responsible for the implementation of the DFG project "Zeitzeugengespräche" ("Contemporary Witness Talks") and the review of DGM history.
