This technical committee works on experimental and theoretical problems in thermodynamics and kinetics of micro- and nanostructure developments in metallic alloys, technical ceramics and composites. Especially the influences of physico-chemical fabrication and operation conditions on stable and metastable microstructure developments are considered. Important topics of this professional discipline are all methods for determining thermodynamic data and phase diagrams (materials constitution) as well as modeling and calculation of multicomponent multiphase materials systems (Computational Thermodynamics). A further major focus is the combination of materials thermodynamics with methods for simulation of reactor processes and description of micro- and macrokinetics. Of special interest are the methods for modeling of diffusion controlled phase transformations (sharp interface and phase field methods). Databases are developed allowing application oriented computer simulations for materials and process optimization (Integrated Computational Materials Engineering).
