Dresden - the stronghold of materials science and materials technology - with numerous Fraunhofer Institutes, the TU Dresden and ultimately a culturally attractive city, unites the materials science and materials technology community from all over Germany every two years. Materials Week 2019 thus also served as a platform for networking and as a source of impetus for innovations from industry and science and for strengthening Germany as a business location.
WerkstoffWoche 2019 showed that the traditionally strong German industry does not have to fear for its position in global competition. The innovations from various material areas, such as additive manufacturing, materials 4.0, lightweight construction, biomaterials, etc., demonstrated the enormous importance and innovative strength of the industry. In addition, the trade fair "Materials for the Future" demonstrated the enormous importance and diversity of materials.
Materials Week 2019 was opened very prominently by Mr. Dirk Hilbert - Lord Mayor of the state capital Dresden and Dr. Rosita Cottone of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The highlight of the congress were the fascinating plenary lectures, which acted like a magnet for the audience. This was demonstrated by the rush of participants in the lecture halls (the capacity of the halls was completely overloaded), so that the audience had to follow the lectures from the corridors.
Furthermore, the congress was characterized by many interesting symposia, overview lectures, BMBF side events, workshops, company presentations and plenary discussions. Numerous panel discussions made an extraordinary contribution to informing participants about innovative products, properties and manufacturing methods as well as highlighting areas of application and limits of new materials.
For the third time, the WerkstoffWoche was organized by the Steel Institute VDEh and the German Society for Materials Science e.V. (DGM). (DGM) successfully. Many other cooperation partners actively supported the event in 2019.
