Begin your career in the Nachwuchsforum at the Werkstoffwoche 2015 in Dresden
The DGM-Nachwuchsforum will take place from 14 to 17 September in Dresden and it is the ideal plattform for students, postgraduates, and PostDocs to network and establish professional contacts. Participants can inform themselves about careers and meet directly with experts from the industry and science. The Matwerk-Nachwuchs can expect an exciting and diversified programme. This is perfectly complemented by the Besichtigungsprogramme (excursions) which offer visits to institutes and companies.
Careerpath for Matwerker
At the Nachwuchskarriereworkshop renowned experts will present different career paths to the Matwerk-Nachwuchs. Prof. Dierk Raabe from the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH will talk about the career possibilities in science, whereas Prof. Rodolfo Schöneburg from Daimler AG will discuss about careers in the industry. Dr. Andreas Olmes from High-Tech Gründerfonds will talk about the topic of self-employment. Following the presentations, the young professionals can present their questions to the experts. In addition, Simon Bettscheider, a young professional himself, will give a lecture about job opportunities abroad as he followed part of his studies in Oregon in the United States and therefore will provide with first-hand information.
Once again it is Slam time!
The Werkstoff-Slam is the platform to present your knowledge to a large audience. In only 10 minutes the participants must impress the public with a free selected topic from Materials Science and Engineering. Creativity has no boundaries and all forms of presentations are allowed. Together with the DGM-Nachwuchs will participate Dr. Jürgen Koppe from MOL Katalysatortechnik GmbH and Prof. Peter Pospiech from the Poliklinik für Zahnärztliche Prothetik. The best presentation will be awarded with a prize from the DGM and Springer Verlag.
Schaulaufen der Talente
As part of the Werkstoffwoche the Matwerker-Nachwuchs have the possibility to enter into direct contact with experts and companies.”Schaulaufen der Talente” allows students to present their research as well as their own personality by showing their competences and plurality to the professors, research institutes and companies. At the end, the best presentation will be selected by a technical jury.
Connect with the Experts
Science or Industry? This is the question that many students are faced with after graduation. Renowned Matwerkers will provide you with tips and answers during the Vernetzungsforum in which participants will be able to go from table to table in short time intervals and establish direct contact with technical experts from the industry and science. Subsequently, they will have the opportunity to individually discuss specific topics with the speakers.
Also in the module “Treffe den Experten” it will be possible to attend individual meetings with experts from industry and science, who will pass on their professional knowledge and experience to the younger generations. Afterwards a brief panel discussion with participants will take place in a relaxed atmosphere and next to a cold beer.
Workshops during the Werkstoffwoche
The transition from University to the Industry is an exciting but challenging step. Dipl.-Soz. Tobias Blank from the Technical University of Darmstadt will present various workshops in order to facilitate the entry into the professional world. In the Workshop “Von der Uni in die Industrie” different aspects from the participants such as personal strengths and competences will be discussed and analysed. The second workshop “In Vorstellungsgesprächen überzeugen” will explain how to prepare for a job interview and which surprises are waiting for the applicants. The workshop “Konfliktgesrpräche führen” will help participants to identify conflict dynamics and methods that enable a confident and fair treatment of the interlocutors.
Amusing Evening Programm
The Werkstoffwoche will open Monday evening with a Highlight: the legendary Werkstoff-Party. The band “White Chocolate” will make everyone dance at the end of the first Werkstoffwoche´s day. On Tuesday the Werkstoff-Abend will offer a place for exchange and networking. Next to fingerfood and drinks the participants can get in touch and discuss the “Materials of the Future”.
At the Poster evening the Participants have the possibility to present their research with a Poster in a relaxed atmosphere that will encourage the exchange of ideas. The music of the event will be in charge of Dr. Noodle Jazz Band and Miss Sophie from Dresden.
