Report: Joint meeting of the Swedish Fatigue Network UTMIS with the DGM/DVM Working Group on Fatigue of Materials

Maintenance of aircraft engines at Lufthansa Technik AG was the starting topic of the first German-Swedish Fatigue Workshop on 7 and 8 March 2019 in Hamburg.

During the tour, Dr. Jan Oke Peters explained to the participants the challenges of safe and economical operation of these complex units.
The subsequent workshop program at the University of Applied Sciences in the heart of Hamburg (at the invitation of Prof. Gerhard Biallas) then dealt with the fatigue of modern construction materials from additive-manufactured steels to dental ceramics in no less than 18 contributions on a wide variety of technically and scientifically relevant topics.
The almost 40 participants had a short break before a guided city tour in a stiff breeze started the transition to dinner at the Brauhaus Joh. Albrecht. The organizers of the working group meeting, Dr. Torsten Sjögren (UTMIS Sweden), Prof. Gerhard Biallas (HAW Hamburg) and Prof. Ulrich Krupp (RWTH Aachen), feel encouraged by the very positive feedback to continue the cooperation. However, the upcoming working group meeting will take place on October 24th and 25th, 2019 at the University of Siegen, Germany.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Krupp
Head of AK Material Fatigue
