Friction, Wear and Wear Protection | 6-8 May 2014 in Karlsruhe, Germany

Conservation of energy and resources is one of the biggest challenges for society and industry. Modern tribology is one of the main cornerstones of reducing carbon emissions. However, friction and wear protection lacks of a systematic approach based on elemental mechanisms from materials science, physics and chemistry; materials and technologies needed in the near future may not be a simple extension of one which is in our hand now.

Following the successful 2008 and 2011 symposium the 2014 conference belongs to a series of conferences held once every three years under the auspices of the technical committee "Materials aspects of tribology and machining" of the German Materials Society, DGM. The scope of the symposium covers all classes of materials, machining, production and lubrication technologies and targets at practitioners from industry as well as engineers and scientists.

We are very pleased and honoured that the following outstanding speakers have accepted our invitation to give plenary talks:

• Staffan Jacobson, Uppsala University, Sweden
• Dirk Bartels, University Magdeburg, Germany
• Miquel Salmeron, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Canada
• Somuri Prasad, Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, USA
• Markus Wimmer, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago USA

Conference Topics: (it is still possible to submit an abstract)

A: Wear resistant materials and coatings
B: Friction materials and linings (brakes, clutches)
C: Ultra-low friction materials and coatings
D: Modelling and computer simulation
E: Material-lubricant interactions and tribochemical effects
F: Ceramics
G: Polymers and PMCs
