Last year was marked by "100 years of DGM": an outstanding event, which we dignifiedly celebrated with a festive event in the Congress and Conference Centre AXICA at the Brandenburg Gate not far from the place of foundation of our society. This celebration also proved once again that the German Materials Society, as the representative body of its members' interests within the field of materials science and materials engineering, is on firm ground and is still, as in its founding days, a "big family". So the next 100 years can come.
Over the course of past year we introduced a modern design of compliance guidelines for all players in DGM e.V. and GmbH and at the same time also an appropriate "weight distribution" between the respective elected honorary leadership of DGM and the full-time management of DGM and GmbH. For this purpose, in intensive discussions in the presidium and executive board as well as with professional support by a management consultancy, for the first time rules of procedure for the management of the DGM and rules of procedure for the management of the DGM-owned GmbH were developed, which clearly regulate the rights and duties on the basis of "best practice" examples of comparable associations. The latter was changed from "Inventum GmbH" to "DGM-Inventum GmbH" for better and clearer identification to the society DGM e.V. This is also an important step.
It is particularly important to the DGM board that all members feel comfortable in the DGM and that all age-specific target groups are happy to be active in this great network. For this purpose, a special appreciation of the communication with DGM members is essential. For this reason, Dr. Stefan Klein has been entrusted with the management of the "Communication" area and has held the position of Deputy Managing Director of DGM e.V. since the beginning of the year. I am also very pleased about this.
So the "next 100 years" have already begun! In any case, we are already looking forward to the next major event of our society, the international MSE congress from 22 to 25 September 2020 and the associated DGM Day in Darmstadt. I am sure that we will be able to continue what the DGM has come to stand for in the future.
With this in mind, we wish you an informative reading of our newsletter and best wishes for 2020 and hope to see you again in Darmstadt in September at the latest.
