MSE-DGM-Tag & Nachwuchsforum - 8 HIGHLIGHTS

The congress “Materials Science and Engineering” (www.mse-congress.de) including the “DGM-Tag“ (annual assembly and Award Ceremony of DGM) and the “Nachwuchsforum” for young researchers (www.dgm.de/dgm/dgm-tag-nachwuchsforum) will open its doors in Darmstadt, Germany from 22nd-25th September 2014.

This year’s programme features top conferences, lectures & poster shows in Material Science as well as the opportunity for contact with young talents, professors and industries. Highlight lecture by Prof. Martin Winterkorn

We look forward to the highlight lecture on 22 September held by Prof. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, about the importance of materials for the wealth of the German industry.

Opening Lecture

The Opening lecture will be held by Prof. Hans-Jürgen Christ from University of Siegen and DGM Chairman followed by a welcoming lecture by Prof. Oliver Kraft, from Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) and President of the Materials Research Society (MRS), one of the leading organizations for materials research worldwide.

Colloquium of Honour: Prof. Dr. Ludwig Schultz

This year’s Colloquium of Honour will be presented by Prof. Dr. Ludwig Schultz from Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden. In the presentation “High Temperature Superconductors for Superconducting Leviation” he will demonstrate the ability to freeze in a magnetic field for completely new applications.

Brazilian-German Symposium

During the MSE Congress 2014 five Brazilian-German symposiums will present topics such as: innovative ceramic processing and polymeric and composite materials from renewable sources, amongst others.

Student Session with short lectures, poster show and a “MatWerk-Slam”

During the Student Session, selected students will present through short lectures abstracts from their final thesis projects. The poster show will present posters related to original work in the field of materials science and engineering. Finally, the MatWerk-Slam is a platform where you can improve your soft skills and learn to present yourself in front of an audience. It will host creative and inspiring presentations. Exciting Side Events by DGM, BMBF, DFG and acatech

Next to the conferences, the exciting side events will also take part in the MSE 2014 congress: The discussed topics will point out the relevance of materials for the society (acatech), highlight the efficiency of resources (BMBF Forum-Matressource), and demonstrate the diverse funding options (DFG). BMBF invites “KMU innovation” to bring SME together and strengthen their part in society. One of the highlights will be the DGM panel discussion which will deal about the political and economic significance of materials science in Germany. Football Final Germany-Brazil

In connection to the Brazilian-German symposium and due to the upcoming World Cup, we have decided to organise our very own MSE football final Germany vs. Brazil. The teams will be composed of participants to the MSE Congress 2014. The Chancellor of the “Technische Universität Darmstadt” Dr. Manfred Efinger will play football for the German team and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Habil. Hans-Jürgen Christ, Chairman of the German Materials Society (DGM), will train them. MSE Party

This year the MSE party will have as guests stars the musical talent of the kings of soul: Waymond Harding & Smiley Garfield.
