The recently designated president of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS) Dr.-Ing. Margarethe Hofmann visited the head office of the German Materials Society in January to get to know her German colleagues. Dr. Margarethe Hofmann succeeded Prof Ehrenfried Zschech at the beginning of this year and will hold the presidency of the European association for the next two years. The main focus of the meeting was set on continuing the efficient collaboration of DGM and FEMS and to enhance networking efforts between the various member societies.
FEMS is the largest association of materials societies in Europe. It was founded in 1987 by the Institute of Metals in London (IOM), the German Society for Metals (DGM), and the French Society for Metallurgy (SFM). At present, FEMS consists of 28 member societies, which accommodate an overall number of 20,000 materials scientists and engineers.
