The working group “Data-Driven Materials Design” at the Chair of Experimental Methodology of Materials Science at Saarland University is looking for a Materials Data Scientist who enjoys working at the interface between materials science and artificial intelligence. The tasks include the further development of machine learning-based workflows for the analysis of microstructure images with a focus on scenarios with small amounts of data, as well as participation in a series of interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with partners from academia and industry. Activities there include exploratory data analysis, the design of data collection and labeling strategies, the training and evaluation of machine learning models, and the interpretation of results in the context of process-microstructure-property correlations.
